Five Basic Lifestyle Changes for Better Health in the New Year
The start of a new year is a good time to assess your overall wellness to make changes that will improve your health. Start with simple adjustments as moderate changes often result in big benefits. For better health and to obtain a positive self-image, consider five basic lifestyle changes. These include:

• Exercising for at least 30 minutes a day
• Eating a well-balanced diet
• Getting the proper amount of sleep
• Seeing your doctor regularly
• Improving your self-image

Exercise

To achieve the recommended fitness level, people should complete two hours and 30 minutes of aerobic activity each week. Try to fit at least 30 minutes of exercise into each day. In addition, attempt to perform your workout routine at a moderate level of intensity. You can accomplish this by taking your dog out for a brisk walk, signing up for a yoga class or swimming. Be sure to spend at least two of your workout days focusing on your chest, shoulders, arms, abdomen and back to strengthen your entire body.

Diet

For a well-balanced diet, eat the proper amount of fruits, proteins, dairy, grains and vegetables. Avoid adding salt to your diet as excess salt can cause high blood pressure. Instead, flavor your dishes with garlic, red pepper flakes or lemon juice. You can also use fresh or dried herbs to spice up a dish.

Sleep

A report released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention advises adults to sleep for seven to eight hours every night. If sleep is a struggle, then a routine may be helpful. For instance, complete your nightly skincare ritual, go to sleep and get up at the same time each day. Don’t change this routine when the weekend arrives. Also, put away your cellphone and avoid watching television before bed.

Health Care

Schedule regular wellness visits with your doctor. Your primary care doctor will complete preventative screenings, administer vaccinations and help you develop a wellness plan that is customized to your body type and needs. Your doctor is likely to catch small medical issues before they become major ones making regular visits one of the best ways to take care of your body.

Self-Image

If an old or new scar is causing you to feel unhappy with your image, then consider having it removed. Various skincare treatment options are available, and this type of procedure comes with few side effects. Once a scar is no longer marring your skin, you may find yourself feeling happier and more confident.

Final Considerations

To start the New Year right, eat a balanced diet, exercise and give your body the sleep that it needs. Also, focus on preventative medical care and eliminate old or new scars to complete your transition to a better, healthier lifestyle.
